Hyundai is Working on a New Airbag

While most of the upgrades we see in the market today for safety and security in a vehicle come in the form of electronic nannies, there’s still a need for a physical package of safety features. When you can’t avoid a collision and the electronics aren’t able to stop you from being impacted, the crumple zones, structure, and airbags of your vehicle will protect you while your seatbelt keeps you in place. There may not seem to be many places where these items can be improved, but, according to Hyundai, there’s room for improved and additional airbags.

We’re Well Protected Already

In the vehicles we drive today, we’re protected on nearly every side by airbags. Our knees have them in some models, we see side-curtain models in larger vehicles, and both the driver and passenger have several airbags to keep them in place and help to lessen the damage done to our bodies during an impact. With that said, it seems there wouldn’t be an area where we don’t have airbags protecting us, but the fact is, we don’t have anything between the driver and front passenger to keep us from running into each other during a collision.

Hyundai Wants to Lower Head Trauma

There can be a great deal of head trauma when you’re in a collision, especially if you and your front passenger bang your heads together. The force of this could be incredible and cause your or your passenger to have long-lasting effects of the injuries sustained. To fix this problem, Hyundai is working on an airbag that could keep you and your passenger from hitting your heads together when you take a drive. The goal is to reduce the chance of a head injury by as much as eighty percent.

The Item to Fix the Problem

Hyundai is working on an airbag that will fill the center console space of its models like the Hyundai Elantra and the Hyundai Kona and be a side- impact airbag that will take the impact from your head and the head of your passenger when you’re in a collision. This item is expected to deploy from the driver’ seat and is tall enough to cover the entire torso and head of both occupants. This airbag will also feature tethers to ensure the airbag stays in position, offering you the protection needed to be able to avoid a head injury during the impact.

Stay Safer in Your Hyundai

The new Hyundai airbag will be offered in future models from this brand to give you the protection you need. In a collision, even when you’re driving without a passenger in the front seat, the center console airbag will deploy to help keep you protected while you’re behind the wheel. Right now, we don’t have a timeframe for when the airbags will be implemented into the mix of items, we see in the Hyundai vehicles we want to drive, but they will arrive in the future. Your safety is going to be improved by Hyundai with an airbag that can protect you and your front passenger in the center area.
