Two-Door Short Bed Silverados and Sierras Are Coming

Just when you thought you’ve seen everything, your local Chevrolet dealer is about to bring something completely new to the table.

For drivers who want top-of-the-line trucks but don’t want extended cabs or long beds, there is something amazing coming down the pipeline. The 2022 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks will be offered with a regular cab and a short bed. That means you can pick up a pickup that is going back to the basics that made these trucks so great.

The Evolution of Trucks

Truck enthusiasts have noticed a trend when it comes to new pickup truck models. These trucks tend to get bigger, more spacious, and more powerful with each model and generation. Many models completely lost their bare-bones models in favor of extended cabs and long beds. While there’s certainly room in the market for massive pickup trucks, an entire segment of truck drivers felt out of the loop. More importantly, larger trucks came with larger price tags.

It’s pretty rare to see a two-door truck on the road today. You can still find vehicles like the RAM 1500 Classic or Ford F-150 that offer regular cabs, although they’re not as prevalent as the extended cab options.

In terms of short beds, vehicles like the Hyundai Santa Cruz, Honda Ridgeline, and Jeep Gladiator are all known for their shorter beds. Of course, these trucks come with larger cabins and don’t offer the performance that you’ll find from a Sierra or Silverado.

The Future of Trucks

There are still plenty of drivers who want a regular cab and a short bed. These could be tradespeople or simply bargain hunters. For the first time in years, the Silverado and Sierra will be available to meet the needs of this segment. Some drivers are even excited about the prospect of building a street-performance or off-road truck.

For now, the Silverado will be available with the 4.3-liter V6, 2.7-liter turbo four-cylinder, and the 5.3-liter V8 engine options, although the V6 is still just an unconfirmed rumor. The Sierra’s engine options are still a mystery, but you should expect similar options found in the Silverado.

Pricing for the new configurations hasn’t been announced just yet, but expectations are high that these models will be less expensive than larger cabins/beds. You’ll have to keep an eye on your local GMC and Chevrolet dealer this spring to get specifics.

Even if you’re not interested in the shorter bed or smaller cabin, having more options only creates more opportunities for truck buyers. You’ll be able to build the exact truck you need with more choices to ensure that it fits into your budget.
