The Wait is Almost Over for a New BMW 5 Series

The current version of the BMW 5 Series is getting a little old. It’s time for a new model and one is on the way to be part of the 2024 model year.

Yes, we tend to look at least one full year into the future when it comes to the automotive world. Sometime in the second half of 2023, we’ll have a new version of the 5 Series to give us the next version of the midsize BMW luxury car that we love to drive. This new model should bring more options than ever; let’s dive in and see what you should expect.

Is Everything Coming to Every Market

It never does. When it comes to most vehicles built and marketed in foreign countries as well as the United States, we tend to get the short end of the stick. While we can show you everything this new midsize BMW will offer, we can’t validate whether or not certain models will make it to the Unites States. Regardless of this potential disappointment, you should find what you want when the new version of the 5 Series arrives, no matter which versions are offered.

BMW Offers Multiple Body Styles

As long as you keep in mind that our market might not see some versions of the new BMW 5 Series, we can go forward and discuss the various models being built. The new 5 Series will have an electric counterpart called the i5. Both should be offered in some markets in both sedan and wagon body styles. The wagon is called the Touring model , but it won’t likely make it to North America. It would be nice if at least one automaker would take a chance and see if we might like to drive a wagon, but in our SUV-heavy market, its not a wise choice.

Could the Wagon Gain the M5 Name?

As strange as it sounds in North America, Europeans know a thing or two about the Sportbrake versions of high-performance cars. Although BMW isn’t calling the M5 Touring a Sportbrake, it could easily be the wagon version of the performance-oriented BMW M5. Will there also be an electric version of this car? Its possible, but don’t expect BMW to offer the i5 Touring with M-Division flair at the same time as the new M5 Touring.

What Features Do We Expect?

The 2024 BMW 5 Series will likely include some form of Level 2+ driving system. This means we could have a hands-free driving package from BMW to rival the GM SuperCruise, Nissan ProPilot Assist, and Ford Blue Cruise. This car could also bring some high-class features down from the 7 Series. Some of these items might be the Bowers & Wilkins sound system, Glow kidney grilles, and iDrive 8 package. This car should arrive with a slew of iconic BMW colors that make onlookers stop and stare at this luxury sedan when it drives by.

What are the Different Models of the New BMW 5 Series?

When this new BMW 5 Series arrives, it should come in several different forms. We expect to see the variations to include but not be limited to:

  • BMW 520i – powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine
  • BMW 520i xDrive – adds AWD to the base model
  • BMW 520d – diesel-powered turbocharged 4-cylinder engine (not for North America)
  • BMW 530i xDrive – 6-cylinder engine and AWD
  • BMW 540i xDrive – high-powered engine and AWD
  • BMW 530e PHEV – 4-cylinder hybrid
  • BMW 550e PHEV – 6-cylinder hybrid
  • BMW M560e – high-powered hybrid
  • BMW i5 eDrive40 – single motor EV
  • BMW i5 M60 – Dual-motor EV with AWD

Can the Current Model be the Right Choice?

If you don’t want to wait for the next generation of the 5 Series, the current version is an incredible vehicle. This midsize luxury sedan is attractive without being overtly showy in any way. You can drive this car with another couple for a dinner date and everyone will have plenty of room. Yes, the 5 Series has the power and prowess to be a lot of fun, but its also great as a daily driver that gives you an enjoyable driving experience wherever you go.

What Does the Live Cockpit Pro Offer?

The Live Cockpit Pro feature is the term used for the pair of 12.3-inch display screens you’ll find in this BMW sedan. One is for the driver information and other controls the infotainment. BMW had developed these screens to offer you the desired information whenever you’re behind the wheel. Whether you want to see the fuel mileage of your car or you’re looking for directions to a new restaurant, it could be easy for you to have the information you need when you use the Live Cockpit Pro feature.

Several Impressive Engines for this BMW Sedan

Currently, we see six different versions of the BMW 5 Series to give you full range of options. All engines mate to an impressive 8-speed automatic transmission to give you the desired shifting and power to the wheels. Engines range from the 4-cylinder of the 530i on up to the massive V8 of the M5 versions. With so many choices, you’ll easily find the power level desired for the midsize luxury sedan that you want to drive every day. will this be the car you drive for pleasure, as your daily ride, or something in between?

Will You Wait or Will You Buy Now?

A new version of the BMW 5 Series is one the horizon. It will be here for the 2024 model year, which will come around sooner than you expect. When this new model arrives we might not see many differences from what we currently enjoy, but within a few months several variants will be added to the mix. Are you ready to wait for the next version of the 5 Series or will you choose to drive one of the electric models when the i5 arrives shortly after the initial offering of the new generation of this BMW?

If you want to give one of the current models of this midsize BMW sedan a chance, head over to your local dealer and take one for a test drive. This could be the luxury car you’ve been waiting for.
