Tesla is an American automobile company that is creating quite a stir in more than one way. First of all they offer high performance all electric vehicles that offer a massive range versus their competitors and make it easy to understand and enjoy a ride in any Tesla model. As a brand that is touted as one of the leaders in luxury models, they are not only working to revamp some of the thinking about all-electric vehicles, but also to do business a little differently with a consumer direct sales model that cuts out the middle man or dealership.
So far many states have blocked the sale of Tesla vehicles in their state, most recently West Virginia. Much of these blockades have come due to the lack of dealership support Tesla is willing to put forth. Because this car company does not intend to create a mass production of its vehicles it will have a difficult time actually setting up a sales location for its amazing array of great cars for buyers to fully enjoy.
Another part of the difficulty, or maybe it’s more a part of the Tesla operating model is the ban of the Tesla-owned storefronts where no sales are taking place, but rather the store acts as a showroom for test drives and information. Because these locations act in a way dealerships would need to operate but without the sales, the same legislation that has barricaded the sale of Tesla vehicles has also blocked these storefronts from operating.
This legislation taking effect in West Virginia cut quite hard into Tesla’s plans. Currently the plan was to have West Virginia as a new hub in the area. Currently there are a limited number of retail locations in Virginia and Pennsylvania and the same ban is in place in Maryland that West Virginia placed on Tesla.
As it turns out, the same leaders in West Virginia that are banning Tesla with its current sales model have stated that Tesla would be more than welcome to make sales in their state if dealerships were established and they followed the same rules as every other carmaker that sells cars in the US. For those looking for a Tesla model test driving may not be an option in many locations, but these cars can be ordered online in order to have one of the amazing luxury models offered by Tesla.
Will Tesla begin to partner with dealerships and offer their models in the same way other manufacturers do? That is a question that is best left to be decided later, but it seems as of now if they want to maximize their sales potential it would be a great idea to find a dealership network they can partner with and sell their cars. Once this is in place, Tesla may see the need to expand production as their sales might just soar beyond their own expectations just based on the availability of these cars to everyone in any state.
