The way that Tesla has entered the automotive market and began offering us a variety of models to choose from for what you want to experience on the road has created a bit of a polarizing view of this company. Some in the automotive industry despise Tesla with their bold way of offering cars that only use electricity for the drive, over the air updates, and forego the use of a traditional dealership network. More than just a startup, Tesla continues to bring us interesting vehicles and hold events that capture our attention.
While the CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk, seems like a genius, billionaire, rock star who works to challenge the status quo, this is a company that builds cars and as such they were bound to run into some of the same troubles as other models. It’snot the first time Tesla has had to enact a recall for some of its models, but the fact that over 11,000 Model X vehicles need to be recalled certainly puts this company into the same categories as many other automakers that might have thought Tesla was incapable of doing any wrong and somehow was this new and bulletproof company in the industry.
The Model X Recall
The most recent recall for the Model X addresses an issue with the second row of seats. So far, the expectation is that only about three percent of the vehicles that will be recalled are actually affected by the problem that’s been reported, but that’s a hopeful estimate right now. The problem involves the seat cables on the second row of fold-flat seats that incorrectly adjusts. If this isn’t repaired the seat back on the left side could move forward in a crash, causing more harm than if not repaired.
Thankfully, so far there haven’t been any reported accidents that were the result of this problem. The issue can be repaired in about ten minutes at one of the mobile service operations of Tesla to make sure the vehicle is rendered safe for the drive once again. The recall affects models that were built between October 28, 2016, and September 1, 2017 in the Model X. This certainly isn’t the largest, first or even the most difficult to execute recall for Tesla, but it does show that even their vehicles will fall under similar guidelines and need to be recalled for repairs from time to time.
No matter your thoughts about Tesla and type of vehicles they produce or the way they do business, this company needs to offer us the safety and security we expect for the drive. They will face the same issues as other companies with recalls and this is simply one example of that. Tesla may be one of the most advanced automotive companies, but it’s still an automotive company. If you happen to own one of the Tesla Model X vehicles affected, make sure you have the vehicle inspected for this recall and take care of it right away to ensure the safety of your vehicle on the road.
