New IONIQ 5 N Video Shows How Serious Hyundai is About Leading EV Manufacturing

When Hyundai Motor Group began transitioning to electric vehicles, they announced their plans to be at the top of the new market. These plans were broad and ambitious and included bringing as many as 11 Hyundai EVs and six electric Genesis models to Hyundai dealers by 2030.

Now, Hyundai’s new IONIQ 5 N video shows how serious they were and gives us more specifics on how they plan to become a leader in electric vehicle manufacturing.

How Hyundai Brought Old-School Car Performance and Modern Technology and Principles Together

Creating a good electric vehicle is about more than just putting a battery-powered motor where an engine used to be.

It’s about re-evaluating how cars function and redesigning vehicles to break the boundaries of what we expect from vehicle performance – while putting a zero-emission electric motor where a gas-powered engine used to be.
Here’s how Hyundai does it:

What is “Sustainable High Performance” to Hyundai?

Traditionally, sustainable high performance is about creating well-performing electric vehicles that don’t produce emissions.

Hyundai took this a step further by developing zero-emission electric vehicles with long-term, sustainably high-performance levels. The company decided sustainability didn’t just mean the environment but also a vehicle’s ability.

They combined this idea with the principles they had already established when releasing the N line of cars to Hyundai dealer showrooms when creating the IONIQ 5 N.

N-Line Vehicle Standards

Back in 2012, some of the greatest researchers at Hyundai were tasked with creating the N line. They came up with three important principles for the vehicles:

  • they must handle sharp corners well
  • they must be performance ready at all times
  • they must be able to both win on a racetrack and drive in everyday situations, not one or the other

Now, Hyundai is making its mark by combining its successful N line principles with its new electric vehicle research.

Making Hyundai’s Best Line Battery-Powered

To make an electric vehicle that was worthy of the N line, Hyundai had to look into some of the finer details of creating a car that uses a battery – as well as the problems associated with it.

One of the major focuses of Hyundai when creating an electric car was controlling battery heat problems. They found a balance between good cooling capability and high efficiency. They even figured out a way to add thrust and sound from gas engines that an electric motor normally can’t produce! It’s called N Sound and N e-shift.

Hyundai is putting all this effort and more into the IONIQ 5 N.

Introducing the IONIQ 5 N

While there isn’t much more information on the IONIQ 5 N – such as powertrain and interior features – you can see it alongside other models taking on the future of the N line at the end of the video below.
