Hyundai Again Tops J.D. Power Tech Experience Survey
Hyundai has taken the top spot in J.D. Power’s 2022 ranking of new technology innovation among mass market brands for the third straight year. The TXI Mass Market Innovation Index measures the market penetration of advanced technologies, as well as consumers’ assessment of how well those technologies are executed.
Hyundai: Innovation Means Success
A knack for innovation has earned Hyundai acclaim as a perennial winner of J.D. Power’s 2022 U.S. Tech Experience Index Study, a leading indicator of market penetration and sustained quality. Most importantly, the TXI Innovation Index recognizes that new technology innovation alone isn’t enough – customer perceptions of how well new technologies perform are also significant and affirm Hyundaiforitssuccess in this important category.
The TXI study utilizes a 1,000-point scale to assess 35 technologies divided into categories, including emerging automation, convenience, infotainment/connectivity, and energy/sustainability. A Hyundai official noted that the TXI Index award is gratifying because it recognizes that the car maker values innovation not just for the “wow” factor, but for being utilitarian and customer friendly.
Performance-Based Index
The J.D. Power study recognizes that the continuing growth of automotive technology needs to be assessed based on how well it addresses customer needs and desires. The TXI study measures how well new tech addresses customer challenges as soon as the technology is introduced, which gives car makers an opportunity to adjust before a market-wide introduction.
Innovation Contributes to Competitive Advantage
Automakers that succeed with innovation tend to have a competitive advantage because they acquire a reputation for being good at giving customers something new and exciting. In fact, innovation may be as important as quality and reliability when it comes to long-term brand satisfaction. As technology advances, the bar is raised higher and companies like Hyundai are continually challenged to meet and exceed that standard.
A J.D. Power spokesperson explained that the survey assesses car makers based on their ability to get the right “mix” of innovation, sustainability, and performance. Anticipation over new advances is a big part of customer expectations and provides a level of consumer new-product excitement that few other markets can equal. Hyundai continues to lead the pack among mass-market brands, with Kia ranking second (Subaru and GMC also ranked in the top five) in the 2022 survey.
The Tech Experience Index study was based on more than 84,000 responses from 2022 model owners, who were surveyed after a period of 90 days. The survey was conducted from February through May 2022.
