Chevrolet Bolt EV

More EV Models Are Coming

Recently, we’ve heard more and more automakers announce plans to have their lineups of the future offered with a large number of hybrid or EV models.
Most recently, we have heard from an automaker that we already know and trust for having successfully entered this area of the market to make the discussion more interesting than it’s been in the past. While many of the different models that have already made their way in the EV and hybrid world come from only a few brands, the newest company to be added to this discussion is General Motors.

With the success that’s already taken place for the Chevrolet Bolt EV, we have an example of a vehicle that works well for you to enjoy the drive with the extended range and the low price we already experienced on the road. Because of this success, the expectation is that we will see at least two new EV models from Chevrolet over the next 18 months as these models are introduced and based on the Bolt model that has become one of the most popular and fastest growing models on the market this year.

Announcing the Plans

It’s not that GM feels they have to continue to compete and discuss more of what they want to offer than any other brand, they simply have already done it and plan to grow their lineup. Other domestic brands that have spoken up for EV and Hybrid models include Ford which plans to offer thirteen new models by 2020 while GM announced they will have twenty of them by the year 2023. FCA remains skeptical about whether or not EV models can be profitable and become the right way to go for the near future, but the near and long-term future seems to hold the same; a movement toward EV and hybrid models.
GM is already working on the EV and hybrid models that we want to see. They have already begun to develop a new model that’s called the SURUS (Silent Utility Rover Universal Superstructure) which is an EV model that is able to ride on a heavy duty truck frame that’s powered by a fuel cell stack. There may be some models that come from GM that use fuel cells for the drive, which may also lead to the overall development of a stronger hydrogen infrastructure so that owners can fill the fuel tank similarly as gasoline.
We won’t be the only market that benefits from the development of the GM EV models. This company will likely extend many of the EV and hybrid models to the global market and continue to build what we need and are looking for. The emissions regulations are becoming stricter around the world and the answer is electrification of the automotive market. Thankfully, GM has proved it knows how to build and create an EV model that’s affordable and enjoyable for us to have the quality drive we’re looking for on the road with a propulsion system that can help save the environment.
