Chevrolet and Honda Offer Us New Crossovers to Compare

The 2019 model year shows us a brand new version of a name we’ve known and loved in the past with the Chevrolet Blazer along with a new name and new model from Honda called the 2019 Honda Passport. These two SUVs are offered with two rows of seats and room for five passengers to put them in a class that’s filled with vehicles that offer the comfort and cargo roominess that we love to enjoy. As we look at this class, we can see how these new models match up with models we’ve loved for years.

Power Choices

When you shop for the Honda Passport, you’re only going to find one engine and it’s the same one that’s used for the Pilot and the Ridgeline. This is a 3.5-liter V6 engine that we’ve certainly admired in the Honda lineup. The Chevrolet Blazer is able to offer you a pair of engines to make sure you can choose what you want when you’re looking for power or you want to choose efficiency for the drive. The base engine in the Blazer is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with the optional engine being a 3.6-liter V6.

When put into comparison, the most powerful two-row SUV in this class is the Ford Edge ST that makes 335 horsepower and 380 lb.-ft. of torque. Next, you’ll see the Blazer at 308 horsepower and 270 lb.-ft. of torque with the Jeep Grand Cherokee up next at 295 horsepower, the Passport next with 280 ponies, then the Nissan Murano which is followed by the Hyundai Santa Fe. At the other end of the list, the Edge still wins with a 250 horsepower base engine while the Blazer follows with 193 horsepower for the base model that’s followed by the Santa Fe.

Fuel Mileage

In this class, the fuel mileage leader is the FWD version of the Ford Edge which is tied with the Hyundai Santa Fe. For AWD models, the Edge offers one mpg more on the highway than the AWD version of the Santa Fe for your drive. Next you’ll see the Nissan Murano on the list, then the Honda Passport, followed by the Chevrolet Blazer. The final model in the fuel mileage list is the Jeep Grand Cherokee which has the worst fuel mileage across the board, but its an SUV you buy for other reasons.

Dimensions

When you put these crossover SUVs on a parking lot together, you’ll see the longest model is the Nissan Murano. This SUV is about an inch and a half longer than the Chevrolet Blazer which comes in second. The longest wheelbase belongs to the Jeep Grand Cherokee which offers a stance that’s two inches longer than the Chevrolet Blazer. The Honda Passport is the widest of these SUV and is followed in a close second by the Chevrolet Blazer. The Blazer is the tallest of the group with the Grand Cherokee coming in at about two inches shorter in height.

The correlation between the exterior size and the interior spaciousness don’t follow the path you might expect. When it comes to headroom, the Ford Edge and Jeep Grand Cherokee are the best choices. Legroom is led by the Hyundai Santa Fe and the width you might need comes in the Honda Passport which has the most shoulder room. When you want to be able to carry the most stuff, the Passport has the lead with the Edge following behind regardless of whether you have the seats up or down. The Chevrolet Blazer doesn’t lead or follow closely in any of these areas. Find one at your local Chevrolet dealer, today!

Technology

When you’re looking for a package of features for the drive, the Honda Passport does a great job of giving you the Honda Sensing suite of safety tech for the drive. Ford also has a similar suite in the Edge. The Passport also offers you an optional overhead camera view, which you can have on the Nissan Murano as well. If you want to have the same level of advanced features for the Chevrolet Blazer, you do have to reach up to higher trim levels to find the items that you desire during the drive.
