It’s well established that electric trucks lose driving range at a much faster rate when towing, but does that mean they aren’t capable work trucks?
Trucks that are made to get work done don’t always end up towing trailers, but it is a big part of their regular duties at and near a jobsite. The capability of a pickup truck to handle the workload involved carrying the team to the location, bringing all the necessary tools, and pulling a trailer filled with materials. As long as the driving range is adequate for the distance to the jobsite, electric trucks can be capable work trucks.
Here are seven electric trucks that could be great at the jobsite.
EdisonFuture EF1-T
The EdisonFuture EF1-T is a new EV that you might not have heard of yet. This pickup is coming to the market to compete with the new Tesla Cybertruck. The EF1-T has a telescopic cover that can fold over the bed and create an SUV-like space, making this pickup a versatile vehicle. The EF1-T can tow up to 11,000 pounds, which is an excellent number in the EV market.
Tesla Cybertruck
The look of the Cybertruck doesn’t immediately make you think of it as a work truck, but it is. This Tesla is one of the most futuristic-looking electric trucks in the market, but it also brings a payload figure of 3,500 pounds and a tow rating of 14,000 pounds, making it one of the strongest electric pickups in the market. The Cybertruck also boasts an impressive driving range of 500 miles, making it useful at many job sites, although we’re unsure of this truck ever seeing the dirt and grime of a construction site.
Ford F-150 Lightning
The electric Ford half-ton truck has already proven itself to be a good truck to help professionals get things done. This impressive EV can tow up to 10,000 pounds and has a payload capacity of 2,000 pounds. Toss in the respectable driving range of 332 miles, and you’ve got a truck that can handle most of the work required. Ford also gives the Lightning an impressive 41-minute charging time using a DC fast-charger, which makes it easy to get charged up and keep the day going with this Ford pickup.
Chevrolet Silverado EV
Early versions of the Chevrolet Silverado EV are excellent work trucks, but future models will be even better. The Silverado EV is one of the many electric trucks we’ve been looking forward to hitting the market. This Chevy offers 10,000 pounds of towing capacity and up to 400 miles of EV driving range. The payload capacity is on the low side at only 1,300 pounds. Chevy intends to release a future version of this EV that can tow up to 20,000 pounds.
GMC Sierra EV
The first version of the GMC Sierra EV is the Denali Edition 1 model, which is also the top trim for this truck. Although not made for work, this GMC EV can handle some work at the jobsite when required. The towing capacity is 9,500 pounds, making it possible to carry a heavy load. GMC gives this half-ton electric pickup truck 400 miles of driving range on a single charge, making it easy to reach every jobsite in the area. The DC fast-charging feature adds 100 miles in only ten minutes, making charging a breeze.
Atlis XT
If the Atlis XT becomes a reality, it will be the most powerful and useful of the electric trucks that can be used for work. The XT can tow nearly 35,000 pounds and carry up to 5,000 pounds in the bed. This truck also features a 500-mile driving range, making it possible to reach job sites that are several miles away from the hardware store. Could the Atlis XT become the heavy-duty truck that changes the electric truck market?
Ram 1500 REV
The new Ram electric pickup is on the way, and it brings the stats that make it one of the best work trucks in the market. The Ram 1500 REV can tow up to 14,000 pounds and has a max payload of 2,700 pounds to give it the stats that matter. This truck also features a 500-mile driving range and can recharge the batteries quickly, adding 110 miles of range in only 10 minutes. This new Ram pickup could be the best of the electric trucks from the Detroit Big Three.
With the right towing figures and driving range, any of these electric trucks can be perfect as a work truck. Which model is right for your needs?
