And Now It’s Here
The new BMW 5 Series showed up in pictures a day before the reveal, but that event didn’t ruin the reveal day for this stalwart luxury performer. The BMW 5 Series has been the most successful luxury nameplate around the world since 1972 with over 7.6 million of these cars sold. The first statistic that makes a huge difference on this new car is the fact that its lighter than before. It seems every car on the market is heading in the direction of lighter builds and this one has lost 137 pounds overall. This was due to the use of magnesium, aluminum and high strength steel in the build. While being lighter, this car is also larger with an overall increase in length of 1.2 inches, 0.3 more in the width and 0.6 inches more for the height. This may not sound like a lot, but it will make a huge difference in the overall feel of the car.
The looks of the new 5 Series come in to appear more like the larger 7 Series than the smaller 3 Series. This gives you a car that has impressive luxury appearances with the grill and headlights appearing to be seamless while highlighting just how wide this car is. Even in the back the 5 Series is more attractive and luxurious than before with the deck lid lip and the trapezoidal exhaust ports that are typically found only on the 7 Series models.

When the system allows these slats to be closed they are kept closed which helps to improve the aerodynamics and provide more fuel efficiency from this new 5 Series.
