2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV: Taking Trails by Storm

2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV: Taking Trails by Storm

The new 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV takes off-roading in a midsize truck to new heights, offering impressive features to conquer every obstacle on the trail.

The team at American Expedition Vehicles added spectacular off-road features to the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 to create the Bison model. They didn’t leave the Canyon out of the conversation, adding similar equipment to the hardcore AT4X trim. This upgraded version of the Canyon brings some of the toughest hardware to make the hard trails much easier and take you deeper into the wilderness for some adventures to places where other vehicles can’t go.

How big are the tires on this Canyon?

The standard version of the Canyon AT4X rides on a set of 33-inch tires, which is already pretty impressive for off-roading. The AEV team added a set of 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler tires wrapped around AEV Salta wheels, giving this Canyon a higher stance and more capability on the trails. The wheels are beadlock-capable, which offers better tire pressure control as long as this feature is used. These tires get things started with a truck that’s much more capable when you take it out for some fun on the trails.

Is the AEV version lifted?

The GMC Canyon AT4X AEV adds 1.5 inches of body lift, making it much easier to ride over boulders, downed trees, and ford through the water. This added lift ensures the bigger tires can clear the bodywork with desired articulation. Everything AEV adds to this truck is made to make it more callable and fun when away from paved roads, but this truck looks extremely cool when you drive down the street as well.

Better bumpers increase off-road angles

When a truck is lifted, the off-road angles are immediately improved and changed, but adding bumpers that provide higher clearances changes things as well. This new version of the Canyon has stamped-steel AEV bumpers, which offer more clearance, improving the off-road angles. This means the AEV version includes an approach angle of 38.2 degrees and 29.6 degrees for the breakover angle.

These new bumpers also include recovery points to make it easier to get out of trouble. The front bumper has room for a winch, adding to the off-road credibility of this upgraded midsize GMC pickup truck. Under the body, this Canyon AT4X has high-strength boron steel skid plates to protect the truck from some of the obstacles that you don’t quite clear on the trail.

How much power does this GMC truck offer?

The new GMC Canyon utilizes one powertrain across all trims, including the new AT4X AEV model. This engine gives you a 2.7-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that delivers 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. This allows lower trims to offer up to 7,700 pounds of towing, while higher trims utilize this power for much better off-roading fun. Every GMC Canyon trim is now an off-road truck, but the AEV model is the most hardcore and capable of the mix.

What does the AT4X trim bring to the mix?

Although we’ve covered the features that AEV added to this truck, understanding what the AT4X includes in its standard package can help make this Canyon extremely capable. The AT4X starts with standard 4WD and a 3-inch lift compared to the other Canyon models. This truck also includes:

  • An off-road suspension
  • Multimatic DSSV spool-valve shocks
  • Electronically controlled locking front and rear differentials
  • Baja drive mode
  • Obsidian Rush interior with Ceramic White accents and red stitching
  • Bose 7-speaker audio system
  • Head-up display
  • Leather seats
  • Heated and ventilated front seats
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Wireless charging pad

Only a few options are available for the AT4X trim, including a power sunroof, red seatbelts, and removable off-road running boards.

How much will the AEV model cost?

Orders for the GMC Canyon AT4X AEV will begin later this year, with deliveries expected in the early part of 2024. GMC hasn’t released hard pricing figures expected for the upgraded AEV model yet, but it could easily reach over $60,000, which is a lot for a midsize truck. Still, with the AT4X priced at $56,995, reaching above $60k isn’t a big stretch for this off-road truck.

When you want to drive the most hardcore off-road midsize truck in the market, the new 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV is the right truck. Will you wait for this pickup to be delivered to enjoy the massive tires, hardcore bumpers, and incredible off-road package that makes this new Canyon a dominant force on every trail?
