2017 Ford Mustang: Throwback Style with Modern Equipment

10.28.16 - 2016 Ford Mustang GT

The marriage between past and present is something that is elegant and beautiful in any vehicle market. When we see the Ford Mustang of today it’s easy to think back to the early years of this original pony car that has been one of our favorites for over five decades. Over that time the Mustang has evolved and changed, but the style has finally gone back to its roots as the power and performance come from completely modern aspects of the Ford technology gurus. The Mustang is simply a work of art on four wheels, and one that you can easily afford.

Ford has never wanted its sports car to be so expensive that the average person in America couldn’t afford it. That’s why this car starts out at an easy to live with price of $25,545 with a V6 and a manual transmission. The automatic will cost you an additional $1,200 and the turbocharged model adds another $1,000 to the price. The Mustang GT enters the discussion at $33,545, but offers a lot of equipment and power for that price. As for the convertible models, the base one begins at $31,000 and moves past $43,000 but still gives you an easy to enjoy price. Of course if you want to head to the top dog and buy the Shelby GT350 the price you’ll pay is $56,495 and it now comes with the Tack Package already installed.

With these prices it seems the Mustang may be heading down the line and unable to offer much in the way of power, but that would be an incorrect assumption. The entire lineup of the Mustang is RWD and offers a standard six-speed manual transmission but the automatic is optional for all but the Shelby. This is one way the Mustang stays less expensive than most sports cars; let’s take a look at the engine lineup.

The base engine is a 3.7-liter V6 that gives you the familiar 300 horsepower we look for in a sports car. This engine also has 280 lb.-ft. of torque to give you good low end power as well. The step up model actually has fewer cylinders and is the 2.3-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder model that brings in 310 horsepower and 320 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine is more efficient than the base model and makes a great road trip car. The GT is the first of the V8s and it uses the familiar 5.0-liter model which gives out 435 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque. Finally, the GT350 Shelby makes use of a 5.2-liter V8 to produce 526 horsepower and 429 lb.-ft. of torque to give you a drive you’ll never forget.

When you look to the base model of the Mustang you won’t feel as if you’ve chosen something that’s stripped down. You will have a rearview camera, push button starting, Track Apps that show performance features for you, select steering for Normal, Sport or Comfort modes, HID headlights, 17-inch aluminum wheels, two USB inputs, Sync Bluetooth connectivity, traction and stability control and a full complement of airbags. The EcoBoost trim adds power front seats, LED fog lights, 18-inch wheels and a spoiler while the GT gives you larger brakes and the line-lock feature so you can do burnouts.

When you look to the options you can choose ventilated front seats, a Shaker audio system, Brembo performance brakes, the new Sync3 infotainment system which brings in the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, leather upholstery, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alerts and much more to give you the Mustang you’ve always dreamed of driving.

Driving this car feels like something out of a story book that smells like fumes and tires. The Mustang is an unapologetic pure sports car that’s made for the fun and excitement of the track, but can be tamed down and used for everyday driving or on a great road trip. This is a car that truly does give you what you put into in and with a variety to choose from this car is one you’ll want to make yours as soon as you can. The Mustang you want to drive is waiting for you at your nearby Ford dealership. Don’t let someone else have the driving pleasure that’s meant for you, go get yours today.
