Winter Fun for an Automotive Testing Team

One team took their fun to Colorado and see what happens when you try and figure out which vehicle is the right one to enjoy in winter.

We have been through one of the harshest winters on record and now that we’re coming out on the other side, it could be interesting to see what some automotive teams decided to do in order to get rid of the feeling of the winter doldrums that we have all felt.

The Lineup of Vehicles is Ready to Go

As the team arrives at the selected location, the temperature reads three degrees, but the sun is shining and there are eight gorgeous vehicles that can be tested to show off what they can do on the course.

Seven of the eight models present are wrapped in snow tires and the parking lot is covered in 18 inches of snow that’s peppered with orange cones to give us a look at the slalom course that’s going to be used. This should be a great way to have a lot of winter fun and a test that makes us know what we should drive.

One Model Shows Off

One of the models at this test that shows itself to be more capable than some of the others is the 2019 Jeep Wrangler Sahara, which is, incidentally, the only one of the vehicles that aren’t wearing winter rubber. This SUV is powered by the 2.0-liter turbocharged Hurricane engine and it seems to have trouble gripping the snow which causes it to turn a bit sideways, but the Jeep does eventually make its way through the course to come out on the other side.

A Few Models from the Rocky Mountain Redline Team

This team brought a fleet of AWD models that are made to go up against the Wrangler and show what they can do in the snow. Among these is a Dodge Challenger GT, a Mercedes-Benz GLE 450, and a Toyota RAV4 Adventure.

These models and others are made to let us figure out which vehicle could be the right one for the drive when looking to head out on the roads and show off the winter performance that we want to be able to enjoy when driving on ice or snow.

The Courses Used for the Test

The first course used for the test was a winter autocross course that makes it possible for the fun and active drive desired. Using one vehicle at a time, each one was pushed to its limit on the snow and ice through the cones on the slick terrain to see what each model could do. This meant allowing the ABS to do the stopping as the brakes were applied at the end of the course where the test was conducted to give us an idea of which model would be the right one to drive in the snow.

Adding More Elements to the Mix

As the team made their way through the slalom course and in the snow, the wind picked up and made the drive even more daunting. This, of course, made for a more ideal test of exactly what each vehicle could do and how it would perform when pushed to the limits offered.

By forcing drivers to avoid the sliding that happens when roads are covered in ice, these vehicles were truly tested to let us see if there was one that would be a lot better than the rest on this track.
