Will Ram have a Special Tailgate of Their Own?

Will Ram have a Special Tailgate of Their Own?

The Ram team had to sit on the sidelines while the public admired the new tailgate being offered by one of their competitors.

The talk of the truck world has been the GMC MultiPro tailgate which offers six different functions that allow you to have a step, a shelf, easier access, and more abilities than you had in the past to reach in and get to the items that are in the bed of the truck. This new tailgate was a reason the GMC Twitter account makes the statement that “The Rams Already Lost” before the Super Bowl ever took place. For this message, the Ram Twitter account threw a flag on the play and told us to “Check back with us on 2/7/19” to see what they have to offer.

What’s Significant about this Date?

The date mentioned is the first date of the Chicago Auto Show and it gives us the idea that the Ram team plans to open this show with a specialized tailgate of their own. The Chicago Auto Show is often a show that’s dominated by trucks and truck brands with commercial and work vehicles being shown off at this venue. It seems that Ram has chosen the right place to show off what they have to give us a look at when it’s time for a drive.

Thoughts of Previous Ram Patents

In 2014, Ram filed a patent for a split tailgate and this item showed up in spy photos in 2017. This patentgave us a tailgatethat was split down the middle with a handle on the left side door. The whole gate could fold down like a traditional tailgate, but each half could also be opened like a swing out door. We see a similarity to the Honda Ridgeline that’s already on the market with its swing-out tailgate, but that gate swings as a whole unit and doesn’t split at all.

The Spy Shots that Were Shown

When we saw the spy shots of the 2020 Ram truck as it was tooling around Detroit as a prototype vehicle, a split tailgate was present. This tailgate showed up without a 50/50 split but instead, it was a 65/35 split that gave one side a larger door than the other. Unfortunately, after these early shots were taken, we haven’t seen the split tailgate on the Ram truck again and have wondered for a while if it was something that we would eventually see offered on this truck.

The Date is Fast Approaching

February 7 will be here soon and that’s when we will see what the new Ram 2020 will have to offer us. This is the date that the proverbial flag that was tossed on the GMC play will finally be explained by Ram. Will we see a split tailgate that allows us to open the door to half the bed of the truck and reach the materials inside or will we see a tailgate that feels like a similarity to what GMC offers? Stay tuned and see what Ram has to offer to support the flag they tossed on the GMC play.
