Buying a brand-new one is beyond most people’s budgets, but you can find fun used sports cars at surprisingly cheap prices. Here are a few to consider.

Pontiac GTO– This American legend is the original muscle car, with a rich history, good looks and an awesome drive. You can opt for the early LS2 car or the later LS3 and find one at a reasonable price.

Chevrolet Corvette– Also known as the Vette, this popular sports car, widely renowned for its performance, is a front engine, rear drive, two-door, two-passenger ride. With seven design generations, you can find a great deal. And prices on the C5 Corvettes have started to come down so there’s plenty to choose from.

Mazda Miata– The best-selling two-seat convertible in history, this lightweight, 4-cylinder Japanese roadster –like the HondaS2000 –is less expensive and fun to drive. You can pick up a 2008 Special Edition for around $7,000.

Nissan 350Z– This sweet two-door, two-seat, front-engine, reliable sports car is sure to be a pleasure to own and drive. It’s the fifth generation of Nissan’s Z-car line, and priced under $10,000.

Porsche 911 (996)- A new Porsche is very expensive but you can get a used 996 for a steal. It was sold from 1999 to 2004, but was widely criticized especially for the headlights and engine. Some people still love them, and prices have come down because of the engine fears. Just check before purchasing this model that the engine flaw has been resolved, if not factor a fix into the price.

Toyota MR2– This mid-engine sports car is a good looker with three generations to pick from. It’s a reliable ride, and you can snag one on ebay for under $6,000.

Porsche 944– Depending on the model you buy, you can find one of these fun rides for under $10,000.

Porsche Boxster/Cayman– The Boxster and Cayman are the most-affordable Porsches. They’ve been on the market for 20 years so there’s plenty to choose from. You can pick up a high mileage car for $5,000or less.
