Lincoln has been faced with the challenge of rebuilding its brand. This once popular brand and name has taken a huge hit over the years but has been on the rise over the past few years to bring us some amazing models to enjoy, but something has been missing. While we love the Navigator and some of the newer sedans that Lincoln has brought to the market, the Continental name has been left out of the plan for several years and finally makes its way back to the market for 2017.
With this familiar name coming back to the lineup the conversation has started to brew, especially after this car made its debut at the Detroit Auto Show in its production form to give us a car we will admire. Is this car good enough to carry on the already highly touted name or does it need more? Do we love the style and appearance of the simple design of the Continental or should it feature more style cues and a different build? It’s hard to say what the Continental should be because it was at one time a land yacht which is no more, and there are several different reactions to this new flagship sedan from Lincoln.
Unfortunately the Continental received a great deal of criticism and was even called an MKZ that has been rebadged with some simple upgrades. Many have stated they will reserve their comments for when they actually get to drive this car, but the consensus seems to be that the car is a bit of a disappointment as something more was expected from Lincoln. If this car is expected to chase the German luxury models this one is falling short of the mark by quite a bit.
So far Lincoln has announced they are not trying to chase the likes of BMW, Mercedes-Benz or Audi with the Continental, but instead wants to create their own level of premium cars for us to enjoy at a price that is much better than your typical vehicle. The problem is that the Continental showed up as a concept and then what we admired on the concept was put to the MKZ which meant we would expect even more from the Continental when it was time for it to show up. Does that mean the Continental won’t be a top seller?
Not at all, the Continental may be the result of Lincoln making a poor decision when it comes to the timing of information. Maybe Lincoln shouldn’t have debuted the features in the MKZ first, but the Continental name can certainly continue to be celebrated as this car is one that will give us plenty to love, even if there is also plenty to criticize on this car. The new Continental will make its debut on the market for the 2017 model year and will be one that causes most who have had negative words for this car to eat their words and show how much they love this car.
