The Ford Explorer with More Power

We’ve seen the Ford team work toward adding more power to its lineup of SUVs and make it easy for us to get excited by the numbers they’re offering. The EcoBoost lineup of engines used by Ford is created to make sure we can have the benefits of the powerful engines offered and the addition of excellent fuel mileage that comes with the turbocharging offered. We saw this application of power added to the Edge ST to make this new SUV one of the most powerful offered, but now it seems the Explorer might take that crown.

There’s More than One Way to Gain Power

The power from the new version of the Explorer comes from a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine that’s aided by an electric motor. Yes, Ford is making their most powerful Explorer model a hybrid vehicle, but this plug-in hybrid will be efficient and capable to make it almost possible for you to forget that you have an electric motor helping the gasoline engine. The numbers you’ll love are 444 horsepower and 620 lb.-ft. of torque, which is what you’ll have if you choose this Explorer model for the drive.

More of What You’re Looking for from Ford

If you happen to desire to drive the Explorer and you know that you’ve only got a short drive to make every day, this version of the SUV will offer you up to 25 miles of electric driving range. When you know you’re going to drive longer or you want to push the power to see what it will offer, you’re going to want the electric system and gasoline system to work together to give you the power that’s available for your drive. This impressive powertrain will give you a lot of choices when you head out for the day.

Trim Levels You’ll Want from Ford

The PHEV model of the Explorer will be offered in two trim levels which are Platinum and S-Line. This allows you to have standard equipment you don’t see in other models including heated and cooled power front seats, power-folding third-row seats, a wireless charging pad, and a 14-speaker audio system. These items allow you to know that you’ve got a large SUV that’s extremely close to being a luxury model that you’ll enjoy driving on a daily basis to show off and enjoy the power at your disposal.

Built Here, but not Sold Here…Yet

The new Ford Explorer PHEV will be built in Chicago alongside the North American models that are offered, but right now, we see no plans from Ford to offer this SUV in the US. Instead, this SUV will be sold in Europe and not here. The fact that it will only be offered in left-hand drive models, might be a hint that it will eventually be offered in the US, but we don’t know that for sure yet. Hopefully, we will have the opportunity to drive this SUV and enjoy it, especially since its being built in the middle of our country.
