The Aston Martin DBX Concept Could Revitalize the Brand
For generations the Aston Martin name has been synonymous with high quality and precision engineering but with so many brands offering these features on entire lineups Aston has found difficulty turning profits and finding the realm where it belongs. The reality is Aston Martin belongs in the category of vehicles that are priced between $125,000 and $300,000 but with such a high sticker price the sales aren’t always in place to support the continued efforts of the company to keep on churning. The volume of sales needed may not be as much as Toyota, but it certainly call for more than are offered today.
With the idea of fitting into the crossover SUV market of luxury vehicles Aston has created the DBX to be a long, low slung SUV that will give amazing performance. Because of the price its hard to imagine a DBX owner taking their high priced luxury SUV that has a complex electric drivetrain and perfectly crafted and finished bodywork out to the off road adventures where it will more easily become damaged in the process. Instead these vehicles are more likely to find themselves prowling the streets of Beverly Hills and be the vehicle so many wealthy drivers show off in.
Adding the DBX to the product line will give us a car like vehicle that is a bit higher on the road, larger in size and shows up with some SUV characteristics. This would certainly put it in a class with the Porsche SUVs and give us something that can compete with those top performers. This is quite a great step in the right directions in order to have vehicles that are built to compete and take back the market share that is desired, but other steps will need to be taken as well.
One example of the right steps to take next would be to have a rival to the Porsche Boxster that will give us a larger lineup of Aston Martin vehicles to enjoy. After over 102-years, Aston Martin is in no way ready to throw in the towel, but will need to continue to bring about the right lineup that can attract a greater crowd. Having a few models that have some great features but come in under the $100,000 mark might also make sense and still protect the high-class, high luxury name that Aston Martin has built.
The DBX, although only in concept form shows us a variety of great features that will be enticing from a lot of different angles. The headlights are smoothly angles toward the front and the door handles are flush, both of which are interesting features. The front end appears to be tough and beefy even though the overall vehicle is a smooth and elegant appearance. The a-pillar rolls smoothly and with a widening size to meet the c-pillar in the rear in order to be a fantastic transition from one to the other and make the vehicle fully resemble a sports car.
On the inside of the vehicle you can see a beautifully thick rimmed flat-bottomed steering wheel that entices the feeling pure sport and speed. One of the features that might not make it, but may just be the right finishing touches to the interior is the inclusion of leather bound pedals. We will see if it makes the cut, but maybe not. Of course the thick saddle-like leather becomes the theme of the interior and is carried throughout the entire vehicle to give some of the best looks that we have ever seen inside any vehicle from any manufacturer.
While this is only a concept as of right now, the DBX is an important part of what the future will hold for Aston Martin. With the success of this vehicle and the possibility of others to come after we might just see the resurgence of one of the name sakes that has been admired for over a century. I certainly hope to see the DBX in production and can’t wait to learn of the response it gets when it shows up ready to take on any challengers that might come its way.
