The Rebel Looks Sinister in Black
What is it about black that makes everything look more sophisticated but also more like it has an evil plan brewing? Many automakers have used blacked out vehicles to look great but these models also remind us of the large cars that were part of the mob movies of the early days of the silver screen which made us associate black with evil. Think about our villains over the years, so many of them wore black as if they were already planning a funeral for the person they were going up against during the scene.
Only recently have we begun to see that some of our heroes also wear black and help to save the world at night. Most famously of these heroes is Batman, but black is still considered the color of evil, of secrets and of pure elegant sophistication, which can be hard for a large pickup truck to pull off. After seeing the new Ram 1500 Rebel Black at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this month I’d say Ram pulled of a serious transformation with a sinister looking truck that’s also bring the class you associate with a sophisticated model that should be at the ball and not playing in the mud.
This new version of the Ram Rebel gives us some impressive new features and looks to make us want to head out and buy it right now. There are new black wheels, a black brush guard, black Katzkin leather upholstery, black and anodized bezels on the doors, center console, instrument panel and gauge cluster trim rings. Add in the gray accent stitching for the dash and the seats and this is truck that looks absolutely amazing. The word “Rebel” is even stitched into the seats, as if you’d forget what this truck was for you.
For this new blacked out version of the Ram Rebel there will be two engine options offered. The base option will be a standard 3.6-liter V6 which offers up 305 horsepower and 269 lb.-ft. of torque. The second and more powerful engine is the 5.7-liter V8 engine which offers up 395 horsepower and 410 lb.-ft. of torque. Both of these engines will use an eight-speed automatic transmission with four-wheel drive making this a truck that not only looks amazing but is also ready to perform on the trails and in the snow for you to make sure you can get where you want to go.
This truck is set up to be an off road beast for you to enjoy taking it to the dry lakebed for some mudding fun, or so that you can climb the steep hills you want to tackle. The Rebel Black rides on 33-inch off road tires and an air suspension with a specially tuned Bilstein shocks seated under the truck. This makes for a formidable package that’s only beat on the Ram lineup by the larger 2500 Off Road. You’ll love the capability and the impressive look and feel of this gorgeous truck.
As good as this truck looked at the Detroit Auto Show, it’s not on sale just yet. You do have to wait until March for the Ram 1500 Rebel Black to hit the dealer showrooms in your area. This is a truck that comes in at a reasonable price when comparted to other special edition trucks and it makes for an impressive way for you to drive and enjoy the road. Don’t let the blacked out serious and sinister look fool you; this is a truck that’s ready to have some fun and carry you wherever you want to go.
