Ram Confirms Their Ram 1500 EV Will Come in 2022

With the release of fully electric pickup trucks like the all-new Ford Lightning, auto enthusiasts have been waiting to see who else will jump into the market. Chevy announced a future Silverado 1500, so the only other big player is the Ram 1500.

Ram announced earlier this year that it was working on a fully electric pickup truck, but there weren’t many details. We knew that the truck was supposed to be ready for the 2024 model year but didn’t know when this new EV would be revealed. Thanks to an announcement from Ram CEO Mike Koval, we now know that the Ram 1500 EV concept car should be coming sometime in 2022.

Ram Likes To Tease

As of March 2022, we only have a few sketches and images of what to expect from the new Ram 1500 EV. Unlike Ford, who is building its Lightning EV to look like a regular F-150, Ram is going in a different direction.

From what we can see, the new Ram 1500 EV will sport a front-mounted windshield over a shorter hood. Without all of the components necessary for a gas powertrain, Ram can put more space into the cabin. The large, four-door cab is certainly designed to impress.

Some initial design sketches show that the Ram 1500 EV will be adorned with bold “RAM” lettering on the front grille with a red outline of the same lettering on the tailgate.

In terms of capability, Ram claims that this EV will have a 500-mile driving range and be able to tow over 10,000 pounds. There’s also a rumor that Ram is working on faster-charging speeds and the inclusion of autonomous driving capabilities.

The real tease is that no one knows what this new EV truck will cost. Based on the starting price of the Ford Lightning (roughly $42,000), drivers should expect to pay $45,000 for an entry-level Ram 1500 EV.

Of course, all of the information right now is based on rumors, hearsay, and hopes. The final product could look a lot different than what we’re expecting right now.

Still Time For Adjustments

Just like with any other new model, we should expect to see some significant changes from the concept vehicle to the final production version. Ram has the benefit of seeing how the Ford F-150 Lightning is received when drivers finally get to take one home later this year. The Chevrolet debuted a concept version of the Silverado EV earlier this year, but deliveries won’t happen until 2024.

Initial signs reveal that shoppers are ready and eager to purchase an EV pickup truck. The Ford Lightning has a waiting list a mile long. So long as the actual reception goes well and people love their EV pickups, the Ram 1500 EV should do quite well, especially since Ram can adjust the design and production after seeing where Ford and Chevrolet made mistakes. There’s also the expectation that new and improved technology will become available for vehicles. Ram always stays ahead of the curve, so we should see some pretty exciting things once this Ram 1500 EV is finally ready.
