The time when a vehicle needs to be upgraded for the next generation of the model is something that automakers have to figure out when they build a vehicle. Every automaker wants to get as much as they can out of a particular generational run but they don’t want a model to go stale and be looked at as too old to matter. The timing of a new generation for a vehicle makes a huge difference in the following and the anticipation of what the model will bring to the market for us to enjoy.
It’s almost time for Volkswagen to offer us a new Jetta model as the entry-level sedan that we’ll love to drive on the roads in our area. The expected model year for a new generation of the Jetta is 2019 and now we have found a few spy photos of what appears to be a pre-production model of this car testing in Spain. This new car may be heavily camouflaged but it does offer us a new look and a great feel for what we’ll be able to enjoy and expect when the car makes it way to the market.
Coming to the Market
As one of the most popular small sedans we see for the drive the Volkswagen Jetta is a car that we know and love for the drive, even if it has a heavily subdued styling. This new model, that was seen testing in Spain, shares the new MQB platform with several other models. This is a huge benefit to the Jetta as it grows a bit to share this platform with the Tiguan, Atlas, and Golf. This new car appears to have a longer body, larger trunk and will be expected to have more space inside the cabin of the car.
The Jetta we see testing is also being offered with a front end that looks similar to the Arteon and Phideon that are already on the European market. We can also see some inspiration from the Golf with the mirrors and wheels that give this car a great look even though we haven’t been able to see it in all its glory yet. The expectation is that the GLI model will be powered by the 2.0-liter four-cylinder TSI engine that will make somewhere between 220 and 230 horsepower to give us the power we want and fuel mileage that makes sense.
We expect to see the production version of the new 2019 Volkswagen Jetta at one of the shows in January to learn what everything will be for this car. As a car we’ve enjoyed driving for many years, the Jetta is a car that continues to be popular and a new look and feel, that’s not nearly as subdued as the previous model, will give this car the drive and the quality we want for the ride. This is one car that’s certainly making it easy for me to look forward to the January auto shows.
