Ford’s New Certified Glass Network

Ford’s New Certified Glass Network

When it comes to windshields, windows, and other glass elements on a vehicle, Ford is raising the bar and putting customers first. Ford decided to launch a new Ford Certified Glass Network (FCGN) to ensure that replacement glass fits and functions correctly, keeps a safe structural integrity, and is efficiently repaired whenever needed.

The Story of a Ford Escape

Let’s imagine that you own one of Ford’s most popular SUVs, the Ford Escape. One day, you’re driving down the road, and a pebble or piece of debris falls out of a passing truck and strikes your windshield.

The good news is that the Ford Escape, like other vehicles in the Ford lineup, was built to keep you safe if something like this happens. Original windshields and other glass components are built and tested to work in conjunction with other safety systems. This design is meant to provide structural support while keeping a clear line of sight for the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), which includes things like lane-keeping assist, pre-collision mitigation, automatic braking, evasive steering, and automatic high beams.

The bad news is that you’re going to need a windshield repair or replacement. You can’t just go with any old glass replacement, as Ford glass is part of a more involved overall system.

Companies That Stand Out

The Ford Certified Glass Network only works with glass repair and replacement companies that meet a strict set of guidelines. Becoming certified for Ford’s specialized glass helps differentiate companies from the competition. They’ve been trained and certified to work with specific glass used in Ford vehicles.

Every installer who works under the FCGN must be certified and prove that they have the right capabilities to do the job. This certification includes technical repair procedures, calibration techniques, and technical support. These installers also have access to assistance to ensure they always have the support they need.

Curt Wormington, Vice President of Carlex Aftermarket Glass (ARG), said that “we’re excited that the Ford Certified Glass Network will provide a premium solution for the most safety-conscious Ford and Lincoln owners. By utilizing Ford genuine OEM glass, industry-accepted Auto Glass Replacement Repair Standards, and the Ford ADAS calibration procedures and tools, this network will provide a great option for proper installation of genuine Ford OEM glass.”

Certified installers must also keep ongoing communication with customers along with a follow-up survey. All glass installations will come with a limited lifetime warranty that covers necessary repairs by the Ford Certified Glass Installer.

The Downside of Poor Installation

If an aftermarket windshield goes on the aforementioned Ford Escape, it may not be able to duplicate the exact location of the camera attachment brackets, which results in distortion of the video feed. Furthermore, the driver may not be able to accurately use the head-up display or other driver-assist features that rely on this camera.

In many instances, aftermarket glass won’t have the same SoundScreen acoustic windshield acoustic dampening technology. That means you’ll notice far more noise in your cabin than you did before.

It’s an exciting time for Ford owners, as this certification program ensures that mishaps on the road are taken care of with the care and skill that we expect from Ford. Learn more at https://collision.ford.com/fordcertifiedglassnetwork.
