Ford Edge vs the Ford Escape: Embrace the Journey

Ford Edge vs the Ford Escape: Embrace the Journey

If you’re hunting for an SUV that works as a daily driver and a family hauler, you don’t have to look any further than the Ford Edge or the Ford Escape.

Both of these Ford models have the space you need in the cabin, lots of tech, and powerful engines, but which one is right for you? Here’s a closer look so you can decide.

Similar Design but Different

The Ford Edge is just over eight inches longer than the Ford Escape. This extra length translates into some extra rear seat legroom and more cargo space. If you need your Ford SUV for a home improvement project, the Escape has the space to haul up to 65.4 cubic feet of supplies, while the Ford Edge has 73.4 cubic feet of space in the cargo area with the rear seats folded down. Both of these SUVs are available with a panoramic Vista roof and a hands-free foot-activated power liftgate.

Looking for More Power?

The type of power and the amount you need will be a consideration when choosing between the Ford Edge and the Ford Escape. The Escape starts with a turbo three-cylinder that puts out 180 horsepower, but you can get the higher trims with a turbo four-cylinder with 250 horsepower. Want some electric power? The Escape PHEV uses both gas and electricity to get you 210 horsepower.

Choosing the Ford Edge gives you engine options too. It starts with the turbo four-cylinder, but you can get the ST with a 2.7-liter turbo V-6. This peppy engine generates 335 horsepower.

How Do You Like Your Tech?

If you like your tech to be big and bold, the Edge comes standard with a 12-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system. It works with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to bring your apps and contacts front and center. The Escape starts with an 8-inch touchscreen, but it also has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a Wi-Fi hotspot. If you like the idea of a more compact SUV but want a large touchscreen, you can get a 13.2-inch display in the PHEV or the ST-Line Elite. These also add a wireless charging pad and a navigation system.

Standard Safety for Everyone

Whether you drive the Ford Edge or the Ford Escape, you’ll have a reliable Ford that comes with a full suite of advanced driver safety features. The CoPilot 360 bundle gets you automatic high beam headlights, a blind-spot warning system with rear cross-traffic alert, and forward collision warning. Both SUVs also have automatic emergency braking. You can step up to the Edge SEL or the Escape Elite to get even more advanced safety features such as rear automatic braking, evasive steering assist, and a 360-degree surround-view camera system.

When it comes down to it, choosing between the Ford Edge and the Ford Escape is mostly about how much space you need in the cabin. The Edge has a few more standard features, but you can get everything you want with the Escape too.
