Supercharging has been around for many years and has been the way that we’ve gained more power from under the hood while avoiding the nasty problem with turbo lag. While you know about the cars of today that have used supercharging and even some that use both supercharging and turbocharging, there may be some that you forgot had either under the hood, especially supercharging. The video below speaks more in depth, but there are several cars that make use of supercharging and are those that we may have forgotten about over the past several years.
Lancia Rally 037 – From 1982 until 1984 this car was used as one of the race cars from this brand. This car used a longitudinal engine layout and was a car that fits in the middle of what Lancia had to offer. As a car that offered you impressive power and boosts from the engine that was seated behind the driver this car was quick and active on the road and on the track to be a lot of fun for you to drive.
Alpina B7 (E65/E66) – BMW wanted to pull more power out of some of its cars and did so with the addition of supercharging provided by this tuning house. The B7 was used from 2004 until 2008 and continues to make its way to the market in some cars. In fact, the Alpina name will be attached to at least one of each of the different BMW models in the M series lineup going forward.
Volkswagen Polo G40 – For the years of 1986 until 1990 this car was one to admire. This car and its larger sibling the G60 were built with superchargers and were decidedly fast on the road and at the track. This is a car that you could have a lot of fun driving as it gave you both the agility you want and the powerful speed you desired to reach up and drive as fast as 120 mph.
Audi S4 (B8) – The S4 has been making use of supercharging since 2008 and is one that brings you the amazing power you want and the ability to have one of the fastest rides on the track when you’re ready to race around. This car is impressive because of its excellent comfort from the cabin as well, making this one of the cars you want to drive every single day.
Mini Cooper S (R53) – In a previous generation of the Mini Cooper, supercharging was used to give this little car a lot more power and more fun on the road. This little car is one that pushed the power to the wheels as quickly as it could. It’s impressive this car was the S model and not the JCW that received the supercharging, but we sure are thankful it did.
Aston Martin DB7 – You might not remember this car as having to supercharge, but it did and it was amazing. You expect every Aston Martin, especially the DB models to be perfect and active for you to enjoy on the road and at the track and this one certainly didn’t disappoint at all with its impressive push of power to the wheels to be one of the most attractive fast cars ever built.
Mercedes-Benz SLK32 AMG – Only built on the market for a few years this car was a heavy car that needed a bit more power from under the hood. In comes the supercharging to save the day and make this car that shared an engine with the Chrysler Crossfire one that was worthy of the brand name of Mercedes-Benz on the hood.
Volkswagen Corrado G60 – Another version of the Golf that we never got to see in the use, this is a car that was impressive from 1988 until 1993 and it took the supercharging and make it the right item to be under the hood of this beauty. This car was right for you to drive and enjoy the low weight and the impressive speed that you could actually reach in a small hot hatch at the time.
Nissan March Super Turbo – Ok, it could be hard to forget this Nissan car unless you’ve actually never heard of it. This is a car that has super in its name and was popular from 1988 until 1992 to be a car that you wanted to drive. As one of the crazy hot hatches that could take on the Volkswagen models and compete this car was a lot of fun to drive and tear up the roads.
