Chevrolet Led the Way in Indianapolis

Chevrolet shined on one of the biggest stages in the racing world, proving that they are indeed capable of handling the track with the best of them.
The Indianapolis 500 is considered “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” and it lived up to the billing this past Memorial Day Weekend. With racers heading around the two-and-a-half mile oval track at top speeds in the Formula One cars that are built for speed and aerodynamics, this was a race to remember and one in which Chevrolet showed up in a big way. During this race, there were several lead changes and a lot of action that was put on display as racing fans got to witness the 102nd running of this amazing race.

During the opening lap and all caution laps of the race, the contestants were led around the track by a 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. This car was driven by Indiana Pacers and former Indiana University star Victor Oladipo who has become a local hero and an excellent choice to drive and enjoy the fun of handling the pace car. This marked one of many times that Chevrolet has provided the pace car for the race, and it could be said this is how the brand led the way during this event, but that’s not the only way Chevrolet showed up in Indianapolis over Memorial Day Weekend.

Chevrolet Cars at the Head of the Finish

This race was won by Will Power (what an awesome name for a racer or an athlete) and he had a fantastic experience celebrating the victory in the winner’s circle. What car was it that Will was driving? He drove the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet car and led a full 59 laps of the race around the brickyard to give the Chevrolet team a win and make his way to victory where he got to drink the milk and enjoy the celebration with his team and his family.
The fun doesn’t stop with the person that one the race. Coming in behind Will Power was Ed Carpenter who is from Indianapolis and finished a career-best second during the race. He was also the Pole sitter for the start of the race and was driving the No. 20 Fuzzy’s Vodka Chevrolet around the track. Carpenter led 65 of the laps during the 200 lap race in Indianapolis and with his finish, the Chevrolet teams were able to provide a 1-2 punch to the rest of the field and offer us the fun and finish we can admire for years to come.
For Team Chevrolet, this marks the tenth win in the Indianapolis 500 and the third time the team has had a 1-2 finish since the return to the IndyCar Series in 2012. These results certainly show that Chevrolet is on the right path with the racing teams that have been put together and the cars that were the bowtie badge. It was a glorious day for racing fans and for Chevrolet. From the pace car to the checkered flag, everything was coming up with bowties on the front and rear to give Chevrolet an amazing day at the track.
