As long as automakers are constantly innovating and coming up with new vehicles, there will always be those cars that might not make it to the next round. The most telling statistic when it comes to whether or not a vehicle is going to continue to be kept on the market is the sales of the model. If a vehicle isn’t able to make money for the brand, it’s going to eventually be put out to pasture and won’t make its way back to the lineup unless a need arises.
Here are some of the worst selling models from previous years which may soon be on the chopping block:
Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive – There were only 744 models of this car sold in previous years which told the brand of Mercedes-Benz that the world isn’t ready for them to put a small EV hatchback on the market and put a premium price on it. For that reason, this impressive model was deleted from the market for 2018 as this brand looks for another way to go.
Acura NSX – This is the luxury supercar from this brand that we should be extremely excited about, but it seems that only 581 made it off the lots for 2017. This was the first full year the car was back on the market and it should have had more sales and more excitement behind it to give it the support needed to make this the car that led the brand. Only time will tell how long the resurrection of the Acura NSX lasts.
Nissan GT-R – The tenth year in the market marks a time when this car might need to be redesigned and upgraded. Another telling statistic for this Nissan supercar is the fact that it was only sold 578 times last year. Nissan should think seriously about making a change when it comes to this car and giving it more excitement for the drive.
BMW i8 – This isn’t any surprise for the market because the i8 is more of a testing ground than any other. While this car isn’t going to be deleted from the market anytime soon, there were only 488 of these sold last year which is low, but not enough to stop the BMW team from developing the next generation of this model.
Kia K900 – Not many people think that a luxury car should come from a bargain brand such as Kia and the low sales of the K900 prove that. This car was only purchased 455 times last year and happens to be heading toward its end with more focus on the youthful fun that can come with this brand rather than the stoic and serious luxury drive.
Alfa Romeo 4C – This is the car that brought Alfa Romeo back to the US and it has been joined by a pair of new models as the brand grows and builds itself back up again. The 4C experienced only 407 sales last year to make this a car that feels like it might not be long for the market. Even so, this is the car that got us excited about driving an Alfa Romeo brand vehicle once again.
Bentley Flying Spur – There aren’t expected to be a large number of sales for this car or any other in this class of vehicle, but with only 257 models sold it might not be long for the market. Even so, with the high average price of this car, it might have been enough for Bentley to bring us another year or more of the Flying Spur for the drive of a high-end luxury model.
Bentley Mulsanne – Continue up the market of the Bentley brand and you see this car that was only purchased 98 times last year. This is a car that can easily be put up next to some of the top models on the market from names such as Rolls-Royce. This model was the fourth one in the Bentley brand when it comes to sales, but it’s also a smooth example of perfect elegance.
Ford GT – This car isn’t built for volume sales and even a low number such as 89 for the year isn’t going to stop Ford from building this car and offering it for the ride you want on the track. This is the car that can rip off a seriously fast time to sixty mph and keep on rolling up to a speed that’s amazing for you to have the drive you’re looking for.
As we all know, sales aren’t the only factor in determining which cars might not make it to the next season, but it’s important for manufacturers to keep in mind that the numbers usually don’t lie.
