Cars and Politics are Always Intertwined

Since the time of the first cars driving around on roads that were made for horses, the government has tried to put regulations in place.

Today, politicians take several stances regarding the automotive industry to try and understand the impact on the world. Many factors have to be considered when looking at new regulations or deregulations in this industry before a decision can be made.

The Previous Automotive World has Disappeared

In the 1960s, 70s, and 80s, there was a huge push for buying domestic products and keeping the American dollars in the U. S. At that time, foreign cars, especially those from Japanese brands, were making their way to our shores and gave us models that were more desirable, especially during the fuel shortage years. This meant the dollars were going back to Japan and not being kept in the U. S.

Today, while the brands that come from Europe, Japan, and Korea are present in our lives every day, we don’t think about the patriotic nature of our buying habits as much. Why is that? The Toyota Camry that you drive may have more parts made in America than the Chevrolet Malibu. Most automakers have built plants in areas where their vehicles are sold, which makes more models domestic than ever before.

Then Environment as a Political Concern

There’s no denying the fact that cars are bad for the environment. The materials used have to go through many processes to become a car and that process expels toxins into the air and leaves waste products behind. While cars are on the road, they emit exhaust fumes which are proven to be bad for the atmosphere. This is a serious topic that is in front of every congress and government in the world to try and figure out.

Governments Don’t Create Jobs, they Only Create the Rules that Can Lead to Jobs

Regardless of your political affiliation, when an elected official tells you they are creating more jobs in a particular industry, they are only telling you half the story. What they are really telling you is they are going to create the rules and regulations that could lead to more jobs. The creation of new jobs in any industry is at the desire and need of the businesses that are part of that industry. There’s no doubt that if a business can operate without creating more jobs, they will do so, no matter what the politicians have to say about it.

Cars and Politics Continue to Intertwine in Our World

We have found that we need cars to be able to go where we want and have items brought to us through some of the most efficient means. While it would be interesting to do without regulations and transportation rules, that’s not how the world works. This is where politics comes in. It’s up to elected officials to figure out what rules will be put in place for vehicles whether it’s simply for your daily drive or the overall production of new models.
