Automakers and Politicians Agree on Environmental Solutions

Whether through regulations from the political arena or through an initiative from automakers, environmental solutions are necessary today.

It was only a few decades ago when we saw many companies pumping copious amounts of harmful pollutants into the atmosphere without any concern for how it impacted the air we breathe. Today, a factory that produces cars or any other item, must meet specific environmental regulations to continue to operate.

Automakers Have Taken a Positive Stand

The rumblings of the next level of government intervention in the automotive industry were often similar to writing on the proverbial wall. Sometimes, automakers took the lead when it came to environmental solutions offering processes that could be adopted by other companies to ensure cleaner production processes were being used to build cars. Many times, automakers were also awarded contracts or tax cuts because of their environmentally-friendly processes.

More Hybrids and EVs Will Positively Impact the Environment

California has an entire governing body dedicated to the air in the state. Smog used to be a serious concern in the Los Angeles area, today, this is one of the cleanest large cities to live in the world. Other large cities around the world have made positive strides to clean up the air and remove the smog from the air surrounding their residents. Today, visiting Paris or Mexico City is more inviting and cleaner than it was a few decades ago.

How has California led the way to offer programs the federal government wants to adopt? They’ve done this with more hybrids and electric vehicles on the road than in any other state. In fact, some automakers have developed vehicles that are often only sold on the West Coast because of the regulations put in place by the California Air Resource Board (CARB) which works toward cleaner air.

Federal Movements Toward Environmental Solutions

One of the most important platforms to the current executive administration is the environment. In fact, the goal for the President is to replace the entire government fleet with electric vehicles that will be used for moving anyone in the federal government. This move is made to help the environment, create more jobs, and show a responsible example for the rest of the country.

The Postal Service is Following the Example

Another way we see a government agency working toward environmental solutions that are needed is with the United States Postal Service changing from the older vehicles they use now to new models that are safer and can be fitted with hybrid or electric powertrains. This is a much-needed change that will bring the USPS in line with the emissions standards the rest of the drives on the road already have to adhere to.

Sometimes we see automakers take the lead when it comes to processes that are made to positively impact the environment, other times, the federal or state governments have to create regulations to ensure automakers are working in an eco-friendly way. Both have the goal of saving the world for generations to come, which should always be one of the most important factors in this industry.
