Air Up and Pay Off
What do you take care of when you stop at a convenience store? Most of us put some air in our tires, gas up our cars and grab a snack or two inside the store. These places are exactly what they are advertised to be; stores that offer a convenience for us to enjoy and take advantage of during our route to wherever we need to go on a daily basis. Sometimes, stopping at the convenience store can pay off for you if you gamble a little and play a game while you’re at the store.
Recently a young man in New York stopped at a roadside convenience store to put air in his tires. While he was taking care of his tires he bought a lottery ticket inside the store. Little did he know his stop for tires was going to pay off in a big way. The young man said he chose the particular lottery ticket because his aunt plays the same ticket when she chooses to play the lottery. He finished airing his tires and went on his way only to find out something amazing and extremely lucky when you got home with his ticket.
Anthony Iavarone, the 19-year old young man who had to stop for air and purchased the ticket won a jackpot on the Cashword scratch-off ticket that ended up being worth $1 million. He won this ticket at Stewart’s Shop in Saratoga County in Ballston to air up his tires. He was so shocked that he won on his ticket that he had his father take a second look at the ticket to confirm that he had, in fact, won the money and is due to the amount of money on the ticket, making him a young man that now has a lot of money.
The stop for air for Anthony will net him a lump sum payment of $661,800 after taxes which certainly give him a great way to start his life whether he uses it for school, to buy a home or to invest and grow for his eventual retirement in many years. The $10 scratch-off turned into a big payday for this young man, which can happen to any of us stopping at a convenience store to play a game and take care of we want and need to along the road to wherever we need to go.
While everyone isn’t going to get rich off scratch-off tickets there is always a chance that you can win some extra money from these tickets, but you can also lose money. The story for Anthony Iavarone isn’t your typical experience with lottery tickets and if you have had problems with gambling in the past you certainly should avoid them, but you never know when you stop to put air or gas in your car will result in you having a little more cash as you leave because you choose to grab a lottery ticket or two inside the convenience store.
