The Jeep Grand Cherokee may be one of the best-selling midsize SUVs in America, but it is far from the only midsize SUV. The midsize SUV market is exploding with options.
So, when you’re out looking for your next vehicle, you might want to consider the 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee or Ford Explorer or one of the Grand Cherokee’s other rivals.
The Ford Explorer – A Battle of Toughness
The Ford Explorer is spacious, reliable, and perfect for family errands and weekend adventure. The Explorer offers a 300-horsepower four-cylinder engine and a 440-horsepower V-6. It can tow up to 5,600 pounds, which is slightly less than the Grand Cherokee’s 6,200 pounds.
The Explorer has three rows of seats, so you can take more friends along for the ride, and it has more space in the cabin for passengers to stretch out. The Grand Cherokee is the more elegant choice, with features such as advanced climate control and the superior Uconnect 5 infotainment system.
The Kia Telluride – The Well-Rounded SUV
The Kia Telluride comes with more standard features than your average midsize SUV. Its roomy cabin has three rows of seats, and the higher trims have an upscale feel. The boxy exterior design helps it stand out from other midsize SUVs, and the ride is smoother than that of the Grand Cherokee.
What the Telluride doesn’t match up to the Jeep is the off-road and towing capabilities. The Grand Cherokee is made for true off-roading, where the Telluride is made more for on-road driving.
The Dodge Durango – A Powerful Beast
The Dodge Durango is a sportier SUV. Underneath a bold exterior lies the heart of a family SUV with three rows of seats and room for up to seven. Power comes from a 3.6-liter V-6 or a 5.7-liter V-8 that adds to the Durango’s muscle car feel. With the V-8 under the hood, this SUV can tow up to 8,700 pounds, trumping the Grand Cherokee.
What you don’t get with the Durango is an upscale cabin. It heads more toward the sporty and athletic side instead of luxurious.
The Toyota 4Runner – Built of Off-Roading
Many of the Grand Cherokee’s rivals don’t come close to its off-road capabilities, but this is not the case with the 4Runner. It can tackle rough terrain with the best of them, especially if you have the TRD Off-Road or TRD Pro.
But while the 4Runner shines when the pavement ends, the ride on the road is not as smooth as the one you’ll get in the Grand Cherokee.
So, when it’s time to consider what you want for your next midsize SUV, there are so many options to choose from. You might even want to look at the previous year of the 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee or the Ford Explorer, or some of the other Grand Cherokee rivals, such as the Telluride or the 4Runner. It’ all comes down to what type of ride you’re looking for.
