2024 Acura ZDX: Delivering Electric Elegance and Power

Should an Acura be more expensive than a Cadillac? The new 2024 Acura ZDX starts out more expensive than the Cadillac Lyriq, but that might be ok.

Honda partnered with GM to kickstart its electric vehicle lineup, utilizing the Ultium platform for the new Honda Prologue and Acura ZDX. The ZDX uses the same setup as the new Cadillac Lyriq, but the Acura comes with a starting price that’s $6,000 more than the Lyriq, making us wonder why this new electric SUV costs more. Let’s take a look at what the ZDX offers as it comes to the market as the first Acura EV.

In an interesting twist, this new Acura electric SUV is being built alongside the Cadillac Lyriq at GM’s Springhill, TN, assembly plant. This makes perfect sense since the two share a platform.

Power starts at a good level for the ZDX

This new Acura electric SUV begins with a single-motor RWD setup that delivers 340 horsepower in the A-Spec trim. This model can also be had with the dual-motor AWD configuration, but that costs an additional $4,000. In the A-Spec trim, drivers will have a 102.0-kWh battery pack that provides 325 miles of driving range for the RWD version and 315 miles of range in the AWD model.

If you’re looking for the more powerful version, the Acura ZDX Type S turns up the heat with a dual-motor setup that produces 500 horsepower. This model comes with a starting price of $75,000, which isn’t a huge jump from the base model’s starting price. The driving range is 288 miles for the Type S, but that’s expected and consistent with higher-powered electric vehicles.

The sportier Type S has an upgraded height-adjustable air suspension with adaptive dampers, a set of 22-inch wheels, larger Brembo brakes, and the option of a set of summer tires. These items add to the overall performance qualities of the ZDX, making it much easier to get the most out of this impressive new electric SUV.

Charging packages help offset the higher price

With the purchase of any new Acura ZDX, owners will receive one of three charging packages. Each package includes 60.0-kWh of free charging at Electrify America stations. In addition to this free charging, these packages include:

• Options for a home charging station
• A portable charging kit
• An installation credit
• Credits at EVGo charging stations

In addition to the charging packages, the new ZDX can recharge quickly. Using a DC fast charging station, this new Acura can add 81 miles of range in only 10 minutes. This is pretty quick, making the ZDX one of the most useful choices in the electric SUV market.

Is this new ZDX sporty enough?

Is this new Acura electric SUV straddling the line between sporty and luxury? It might be. The ZDX name isn’t new; it debuted in the 2010 model year as a fastback SUV that was ahead of its time. This new version has a more traditional look to it but still has sporty styling that makes it an attractive vehicle to drive. The new ZDX brings interesting features such as a floating roof, smooth body sides, and a faux grille with a light-up border.

Heading inside for the right look

This new Acura electric SUV brings a conservative interior design to the market. It’s not nearly as stark and sterile as a Tesla, but it’s not showy or over the top either. Although the Precision EV Concept showed up on the stage with a yoke-style steering wheel, the production model brings a normal, traditional circular wheel to the market. The ZDX also features a traditional touchscreen infotainment system and a few redundant tactile controls to give new drivers a few knobs and buttons to use during their drive.

There’s room for five passengers across three rows in every model of this new Acura ZDX. Some of the interior elements match that of the Cadillac Lyriq, which is expected, but you’ll see more than enough Acura influence to see a serious difference between the two models.

Acura gives the ZDX a pretty nice tech package

The ZDX’s touchscreen display measures 11.3 inches, and the gauge cluster is presented on an 11.0-inch screen. This new electric SUV includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, built-in Google Android Automotive hardware, and a 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system.
