If you’re asked about American vehicles the ones that come to mind as the most iconic could be the Mustang, Corvette and certainly the Jeep Wrangler. This vehicle was born out of a battlefield need and has continued on after over 75 years as one of the most impressive and well-loved off roading vehicles on the market today. We love the Wrangler and what it stands for, which is a commitment to adventure. Admittedly, this isn’t the most road friendly vehicle on the market, but the trade off to have the impressive off road character and performance of the Wrangler makes it all worthwhile.
For the various ways you can have the Wrangler setup, it’s amazing that this SUV only comes with one engine for you to make use of. This is the highly regarded Pentastar 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces 285 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque to give you all the power you’ll need to push through the mud and the muck of the off road areas. This engine can be attached to either a six-speed manual or a five-speed automatic transmission to give you the powertrain you want to have in this SUV. There isn’t any noticeable difference in fuel mileage for either transmission, which means this is certainly a personal preference for you to decide.
As a vehicle that still carried much of the character that it had when it was under a different brand name or serving on the front lines in Europe, the Wrangler hasn’t changed much at all for 2017. There are new LED headlights and fog lights that are optional on the Sport and Sport S models but standard on the Sahara and Rubicon versions. There is a new cold weather package offered on the Sort S and Rubicon models to give you special tires and an engine-block heater.
The beauty of the off road setup of this impressive SUV is the solid axles, the amazing ground clearance and the short overhangs of the fenders. There’s nothing to get in the way of the Wrangler going where it needs to go and making it to the next destination. For the best 4WD system of them all, you can step up to the Rubicon model that brings in heavy duty axles and transfer case, lower gearing, locking differential, a disconnecting front sway bar and larger tires to give you an SUV that can climb nearly any hill or mountain you can find.
The Jeep Wrangler continues on a pretty basic vehicle to drive. The standard features you’ll find on this SUV include the engine, a 4WD system with a low range transfer case, skidplates, stability control with roll mitigation, hill start assist, trailer sway control, a USB port, an eight speaker audio system, removable doors and a folding soft top, which even comes standard on the four-door Unlimited model. The items you won’t get on the base, Sport model include power windows and locks and air conditioning.
Looking upward toward the options you can have there is a Power Convenience Group that makes a difference for you. This package adds the power locks, power mirrors, power windows and keyless entry to the mix. The Cold Weather package can be had to help you get started on cold mornings with an engine-block heater, heated seats and a remote start system. There are tons of upgrades you can find for the Wrangler and as one of the most customized vehicles on the market today, it will be easy for you to add the gear you need for all your off road adventures that you plan to enjoy.
The Jeep Wrangler is an icon and a staple of the American landscape. This is a vehicle that has become popular all over the country and there are Jeep clubs in nearly every state that get together just to talk about their Jeep Wranglers and the adventures they’re getting ready for. You can be part of one of these clubs or have a great time heading into the great outdoors on your own in a vehicle that’s made to be challenged in areas that don’t have any trails built yet that you have to create. Come see your local Jeep dealer and make this the year you go exploring in the wilderness in your new Jeep Wrangler.
