While the U.S. market is not kind to the station wagons, keeping Audi from bringing the RS6 Avant to the states, the RS7 is a sleek, stylish, and stunning four-door sedan with Audi quality and style throughout the car. Shaped like a rocket ship on wheels, but seeming to be so much better, the 2014 Audi RS7 offers the owner a ton of Audi for the money.
Offering gaping air intakes, a honeycomb grille, aluminum-look mirror caps, and a twin oval exhaust outlet, the 2014 Audi RS7 is unmistakable as a member of the RS family from Audi. Bringing excitement with 20-inch wheels, with an option to go even bigger to 21’s, a matte-aluminum and carbon-fiber appearance are both available as options to create a unique and stylish RS7 that will have the neighbors green with envy.
No matter which appearance is chose, both include large Quattro lettering on the grille, and a sub-grille with even finer detailing. Added to the carbon-fiber package is a modified front splitter and rear diffuser adding a look of speed to the already bullet shaped 2014 Audi RS7.
On the inside the 2014 Audi RS7 continues the RS-signature features including a flat-bottom steering wheel, a 200-mph speedometer, a color display instrument panel showing oil temperature, boost pressure and a digital shift light.
In the power department of this sleek and stylish bullet of a car is a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 screaming to be taken for a ride that is sure to excite the driver and passengers. This beast of an engine offers up 560 horsepower and 516 lb.-ft. of torque which is given to all wheels with the eight-speed ZF-sourced automatic transmission equipped with all-wheel drive. This is huge power for the taking, allowing for awesome passing potential on the highway as well as quickness in the city.
With the power setup on the 2014 Audi RS7, forty percent of the power is pushed to the front wheels and sixty to the rear allowing for a full range of quickness with all four wheels have a fantastic amount of power. The RS7 is fast off the line as well, offering a zero to sixty time of 3.9 seconds, faster than many supercars of this generation.
With all this power and excitement owners still want a smooth and easy ride, making it fun and luxurious is an Audi trademark and they hit it hard with two suspension choices, an air or a very firm steel-spring setup. To assist with the suspension and chassis is a stability-control system which can help stabilize the vehicle when needed, or completely turned off when it offers no benefit at all.
Even though the 2014 Audi RS7 is powered by what would normally be considered a gas guzzling engine, the powerful V8 is equipped with a cylinder-deactivation system which can shut down four of the cylinders when cruising. Add to this the stop-start system and even though the numbers aren’t huge for a sedan, they are respectable for a V8 power hungry gas guzzler, coming in at 15 city/26 hwy mpg.
While Audi didn’t send a great station wagon to the U.S., probably a smart move on their part, they did send a truly great and powerful sports car wrapped in a sedan body. The 2014 Audi RS7 is an awesome car to be sure and a serious joy for any owner to drive.
