Is it Fair to Offer a Corvette-Powered Cadillac?

Considering Cadillac and the Corvette are both GM products it seems the simple answer should be “yes” it is fair to have a Cadillac model that is powered by a Corvette engine, but fair to whom. If it’s not fair to the other automakers, they can simple get over it and figure out how to perform a similar task on their own. If it’s to be fair to consumers, the answer is “hell yeah” we’d love a high powered Caddy that is not only going to take care of our luxury needs but give us a powerful ride.

The 2016 Cadillac CTS-V model is just the ticket to give consumers an awesome and high powered product and have other automakers looking through the rule book to see if this is even allowed. The reality is, GM has written their own rules and then broken them time and time again, this time to offer a car that is absolutely stunning and amazing. Some of the amazement found in the CTS-V is the performance based stylings with nothing from the A-pillars forward offered on any other model from Cadillac.

If you are looking for decorative, go somewhere else, but if you want performance in a luxury car this is the place to be. The front of the CTS-V offers a vented carbon-fiber hood, widened fenders with extractor vents and grill treatments that are V-spec and functional.

Once you lift the hood, the Chevy Corvette inside shows up in a big way. The supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 V8 engine sits beautifully in the engine compartment and offers you up to 640 horsepower and 630 lb.-ft. of torque, a little lower than the actual Corvette Z06 but very close and certainly better than most luxury cars. The Z06 also gave the CTS-V its electronically controlled limited-slip differential and the eight-speed automatic transmission, which makes me think the Corvette builders, must have chosen to spend some time on the Cadillac line for all the performance parts.

As the signature part of the car, and across the Cadillac line, the electric power assisted steering is present which is of course is one of the best steering systems on any vehicle. Another great benefit to this car, which is more Cadillac than Corvette, is the promise by Cadillac that owners won’t have to pay the gas guzzler tax the competitors did not protect their shoppers from.

Add the cooling systems of this awesome car to the mix (the joke is the heat exchangers have their own heat exchangers) and you can confidently push the limits and beyond in this beautiful mid-sized luxury sedan. As a final note; and thumbing of the nose to BMW and Mercedes-Benz is the fact the CTS-V offers the lowest power-weight ratio. Even though this car weighs 4145 pounds the ratio for the CTS-V is 6.5 pounds per horsepower while the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG is 8.0 pounds per horsepower and the BMW M5 is 7.8 pounds per horsepower.
