Bankruptcy has been Just Another Hurdle for Spyker

The Geneva Motor Show seems to be a place to show off resurging automakers and new products that can seriously take our breath away. Gumpert has changed to Apollo and now has the Arrow to show off and the Dutch automaker, Spyker, who appeared to be done when they filed for bankruptcy in 2014 brings in a new car called the C8 Preliator. While we have seen our own domestic models deal with and fight through their own bankruptcy issues in the past, it’s usually more than a couple years until a bounce back and with a company as small as Spyker this could have been the end.

The C8 Preliator, with a name that means fighter or warrior in Latin, shows us the third model the company has built since it was founded in 2000. That’s right, in sixteen years the company has only produced three models, but as many exotics happen to do, the company will sell a limited number of units, in this case fifty, and that will be enough to help the brand move forward and create the next great product for those ultra-wealthy who tend to collect these cars and keep them hidden in car garages full of exotic brand vehicles.

For these fifty lucky individuals the C8 Preliator is a car that offers great sports car looks and some interesting folds and angles in the bodywork to make you ask questions. If this car resembled anything else I would say it looks a lot like an Aston Martin vehicle with some additional work to the aero package. With a cool look that will give us a ca which is great for driving the C8 Preliator will be one that the owners will want to drive and it looks like a car you can enjoy on a weekend cruise through the countryside.

As for the power of this car, the engine used is a 4.2-liter supercharged V8 engine that has been sourced from Audi and produces 518 horsepower along with 442 lb.-ft. of torque. This will be mated to a six-speed Getrag manual transmission or a ZF six-speed automatic with paddle shifters. This car will ride on 19-inch wheels and enjoy the AP Racing brakes made of carbon ceramic that are an option that can be added to the car. This makes for a great system of driving and when you add the Lotus suspension this car is ready to be taken to the track or enjoy a great ride any day of the week.

Under the gorgeous body of this car there is space frame chassis that has integrated side impact features and rollover bars. This makes for a chassis that is ten percent lighter than their previous production which helps with the performance. Hopefully the fifty units that will be sold will be all that is needed to keep this company successfully able to make more cars and offer us another product in the near future. For the time being, Spyker has risen from the dead and used bankruptcy as just another hurdle on their way to success.
