Another Variation of the Cruze Aims at the TDI Crowd

Those who have been soured by the fact the TDI engines of the Volkswagen can no longer be sold because of the massive scandal now have an alternative that might make them smile. As a huge part of the sales of some models form VW, other automakers look to capitalize on the segment left behind by these vehicles by offering diesel versions of cars that we already love and want to drive. One such car that will look to make this move is the Chevrolet Cruze that will be offered as a diesel in 2017.

The diesel Cruze is not a new idea, and Chevrolet wasn’t looking to unveil its numbers yet, but we now have the pricing for this new version and it seriously undercuts the price of the previous generation to give us an even more affordable diesel option on this little sedan, and now on the hatchback as well, to give us a great little diesel vehicle to replace the VW models we can no longer buy. Unfortunately, we don’t know the power or efficiency numbers of the new Cruze diesel just yet, but we can discuss how this version of the car is being equipped and what it will have for you to enjoy.

There will be two transmission choices with the Cruze Diesel. You can choose either a six-speed manual or a nine-speed automatic which will give you the ride quality you want and the driving experience you’re looking for. The base model of this car will be the manual model and it will start at $24,670 while the automatic will begin at $26,270. This base diesel model will be setup in the LT trim with the Convenience package. This gives you an eight way power driver’s seat, push button starting, keyless entry and heated front seats.

This level will offer you the Leather package as an option for both models and the Sun, Sound and Confidence package is offered for the sedans with the automatic transmission. We don’t have the pricing for the hatchback just yet, but you can imagine it will be a little higher. Every Cruse diesel will have the Chevy 24/7 Promise included, two years of SiriusXM satellite radio and OnStar plus for two years or 24 GB of 4G LTE data, whichever comes first during the two years. This packaging certainly makes the Cruze diesel a great car for you to enjoy driving on the road that can replace the TDI you had in the past.

The next part of what we need to know is the numbers for the 1.6-liter turbocharged diesel four-cylinder engine that will be matched up with these two transmissions. These numbers will be critical to determining if this will be the car for you to enjoy and replace the old VW model you loved until the scandal broke. We haven’t even had pictures of the new Cruze diesel yet, but you can bet it won’t look a lot different from the typical Cruze, but it certainly will feel different with the diesel power.
