A New Ferrari to Love

All you have to hear is the name “Ferrari” and you instantly think of some of the most attractive and inspiring cars that have ever hit the streets of this planet. Whether they are screaming loud on the racetracks or cruising down a country road, the Ferrari models of the world make for aerodynamic and high powered driving for us to admire.

For 2016 Ferrari has given us a running mate to go along with the 488 GTB in the form of the 488 Spider. This car is one that is being billed as having the best V8 power from a mid or rear engine setup while also being the most aerodynamic spider model to ever be created by Ferrari. That alone is more than enough to get the juices flowing with excitement just to see what this new car has to offer.

As a spider model the top retracts to sit over the engine; this takes fourteen seconds to complete and even though the top is retractable the stiffness and rigidity is improved by 23 percent over the 458 Spider this car replaces. While many of the models with a retractable roof lose some of their aerodynamics, this one does not because the engineers configured the airflow and sculpting to ensure optimal air flow is maintained.

The engine of the new 488 Spider is the one we see in the 488 GTB, which makes them model twins to give us a pair of high powered beauties. This engine is a 3.9-liter twin turbocharged V8 engine that produces 660 horsepower and 561 lb.-ft. of torque. This car is set up in RWD and has the engine attached to a seven-speed Formula 1 style dual clutch automatic transmission that has variable torque management. With this powertrain this car can reach sixty mph in less than three seconds and continue on to reach 125 mph in only 8.7 seconds. The top speed for the 488 Spider comes in at 203 mph making it one seriously fast car for you to drive should you be so fortunate.

While the 488 Spider is 110 pounds heavier than the 488 GTB it’s actually 25 pounds lighter than the outgoing 458 Spider; coming in at 3,362 pounds. This lighter weight and the chassis that uses the Side Slip Control system makes for an active and energetic car that allows you to have full control and an amazing drive. With this car you can come out of corners much faster than you could in the outgoing model, which is perfect for the fun you can have at the track.

What will you do with your new 488 Spider? This is a car you should take to the track and see what it will do but also one you want to enjoy on the roads in your area to have the best drive possible. Just don’t lock it away as a museum piece, this car wants to be driven and you want to enjoy the perfect engineering and craftsmanship that has gone into bringing one of the most impressive cars to ever carry the name Ferrari to the market.
