2016 Volkswagen Beetle: A Classic that Continues to Impress

You might not know the history of the Beetle, but this car is one that has been around since shortly after World War II and has been the single best-selling vehicle ever. The model for this year offers a similar style as a cute and affordable car but the latest version gives us high tech features and lots of colors to make it easy for you to have the Beetle you want. One major difference between the Beetle of old and he one of today is the fact that this new one offers much better safety than the older models.

What do you get when you buy the Beetle? You get a car that offers a compact build and a style that has stood the test of time. This car stands out in any crowd, unless that crowd is full of VW Beetles. This car comes as a great coupe or convertible and comes with a build that is easy to enjoy. The interior offers a cabin full of great materials and for 2016 the Beetle gives us a simplified lineup. There is a new engine added and Automatic Post Collison braking to make sure the car will stop when in a collision.

Driving the Beetle offers you a great way to have a car that is easy to maneuver through traffic and give you good acceleration and fuel mileage. This is a car that has been one of the most fun cars to drive for decades and has given more of us the best first car ride for us to imagine the fun we can have at the beach or just cruising around. With an R-Line model in this car you can even enjoy some improved acceleration and the fun of a sport tuned suspension to give you a go-kart that has all the modern toys.

The two gasoline powered engines of the Beetle make is very easy for you to have a wonderful powertrain to enjoy and a ride you can admire. The first engine is a 1.8-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine that gives you 170 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine can be mated to a manual transmission to give you the feel of nostalgia or you can enjoy the dynamic performance of the six-speed automatic DSG transmission. This powertrain offers you fuel numbers of 24 city/33 hwy mpg for the manual coupe, 25 city/33 hwy mpg for the automatic coupe and 24 city/32 hwy mpg in the automatic convertible.

The other engine for the Beetle is perfect for the R-Line as it is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine that provides a good power boost to 210 horsepower and 207 lb.-ft. of torque. Using the same transmissions for this engine the Beetle has a range of fuel mileages of 23 city/31 hwy mpg for the manual coupe, 24 city/30 hwy mpg for the automatic coupe, 23 city/29 hwy mpg in the manual convertible and 23 city/31 hwy mpg in the automatic convertible. This engine does require premium gasoline to run its best while the smaller engine is perfectly happy operating on regular unleaded gasoline.

No matter the build choice, coupe or convertible, there are four seats to make use of. The space is really in the front seats as this is a little car, but two adults can fit in the rear when needed. The fun of the Beetle shows up in the ease of use from the controls which are all places where you can find them easily. You can also enjoy the great looks of the multi-toned interior materials that are present. This car does have a hatchback style, which gives you 15.4 cubic feet of space for storage when needed.

On the outside the Beetle shows off as a bit larger and sportier than the previous model. Remember the built in vase; that has disappeared and the car offers more style than ever. While this is still a Beetle and the round eye headlights and rounded look of the car have only changed slightly in the past seventy years this car does have more attitude than ever before. For the sportier R-Line model you see a standard rear spoiler added to the car to give you the look you really want to enjoy.

We already know this car comes in two models but it also has three trim levels, S, SE and SEL. The S model is the base version which gives you 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, air conditioning, cloth seats, a five-inch MIB II touch screen radio with a USB port, Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control, heated power mirrors and arear spoiler. Moving up to the SE will add a 6.3-inch MIB II touch screen radio with App Connect and a rearview camera. At the SEL the standard equipment you enjoy includes 18-inch wheels, a navigation system, Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Traffic Alerts.

Looking to the optional features this car gives you a navigation system, a panoramic sunroof, keyless access, 18-inch alloy wheels and a premium Fender audio system. If you choose the R-Line model you will enjoy bi-xenon headlights, leather upholstery and 19-inch wheels. The accessories you can find for this cool little car include a rear spoiler, retro-style wheels, a body styling kit, and a nickname badge you can put on the rear lid of the car. As you can see the Beetle is car that offers a wide array of different looks for you to enjoy and admire.

What has always been the attraction to the Beetle? It’s been an affordable model for many years and that continues for the 2016 version. The base price starts out at $20,600 for the S trim coupe with the SE coming in around $22,200. The SEL will bring in a price that starts near $26,800 with the convertible models starting at $26,300. If you want performance the R-Line will ask for $26,800 to start with the fully loaded version coming in around $36,900. This pricing structure is one that makes this an affordable and fun car to drive.
